FAQ - Fluorescent lighting
Q - What is the power consumption of 12-volt fluorescent lights ? A - The National Luna range of fluorescent lights have been optimised for low power consumption while maintaining an excellent lumen-per-watt rating. The current consumption of National Luna lights range from 0.8A (8W) to 2.2A (30W) at 12.5 Volts.
Q - Is it true that fluorescent lights can trigger epileptic fits ? A - Flashing and flickering light sources have been known to induce epileptic fits. Many household fluorescent lights operate at low frequency and their "flicker" can be visible to some people. National Luna 12-volt fluorescent lights operate at very high frequencies and cannot be seen by the human eye. For this reason some people prefer to use high-frequency lights in order to prevent inducing epileptic fits.
Q - I've heard that fluorescent lights can interfere with my radio and TV. Is this true ? A - Some cheaper fluorescent light circuits can cause radio interference. All National Luna fluorescent lights are optimised for low radio emmisions and meet international EMI interference regulations.
Q - Are tubes for National Luna lights readily available ? A - National Luna lights use standard fluorescent tubes, obtainable from most electrical or lighting wholesalers. Since the electronic circuitry in each model is designed for a specific tube power, it is important to replace the tube with a similar one with the same power rating.
Q - How bright are National Luna lights ? A - National Luna has a wide range of lights which have different light outputs and different light concentrations. Fluorescent lights are known for excellent lighting capability with low power consumption.
Q - How long can I run a fluorescent light on a single battery ? A - National Luna lights have power consumptions as low as 0.7 amps. At this power rating a single 105Ah battery can be used for longer than 100 hours. Other lights can consume up to 2.2 amps allowing an approximate running time of up to 42 hours.
Q - How reliable are National Luna lights ? A - All National Luna lights are designed with high-efficiency driving circuits. These circuits are long-lasting, low-loss and very reliable. Replace broken tubes with high-quality types with the same power rating for best reliability.
Q - What are "clip-on " lights used for ? A - Many National Luna lights are avialable in a clip-on version. These lights are useful for non-permanent lighting, such as camp-sites or workshop use. All clip-on lights are supplied with tent-pole clips, 6.2 metres of cable and battery clips.
Q - What is the benefit of couloured lenses ? A - Some models of National Luna lights are available with Yellow or Red lenses. The yellow lens is effective against attracting insects, the red lense is used for preventing night-blindness when illuminating an area at night.
